Mario Party 9 (also called MP9) is the ninth home console installment of the Mario Party series and the second and final installment (the first being Mario Party 8) for the Wii. The game was the first in the series to be developed by Nd Cube instead of Hudson Soft. It is also the sixteenth in the series overall. The game was released on March 2, 2012 in Europe, March 8, 2012 in Australia.

Mario Party 9 also makes big improvements to the overall aesthetic from the previous game in the series. Wii games have always had a reputation as looking rather rough around the edges. However, through using assets from Super Mario Galaxy 2 and generally just polishing up the title, the ninth outing really looks the part. In Mario Party 9, each themed stage has a clear destination point but with multiple paths along the way, so no two games will play the same. From Toad Road to Boo's Horror Castle, players will encounter a wide variety of familiar Mario franchise elements in new environments that can be enjoyed solo or with friends. In Mario Party 9, the Museum features a Sound Test where the player can unlock five categories of music from the game for 100 Party Points each: Menu Music, Stage Music, Minigame Music 1, Minigame Music 2, and Other Tracks.
